- Change-of-Mind Returns: Accepted within 60 days of purchase (extended to 365 days for OnePass members). Items must be in original, saleable condition (unused, in original packaging, with tags and hygiene stickers attached).
- Proof of Purchase Required: As of August 1, 2024, proof of purchase (receipt, online invoice, bank statement) is mandatory for change-of-mind returns.
- Exclusions: Some items are not eligible for change-of-mind returns due to hygiene or safety, including:
- Cosmetics with broken seals
- Beauty products, fragrances
- Perishable items
- Underwear (except bras)
- Pierced jewelry and personalised items
- Bedding accessories (mattress/pillow protectors)
- Gift cards or recharge cards

- Note: Faulty or incorrectly described items can always be returned under Australian Consumer Law, regardless of category exclusions.
How to return an item to Target
Target makes it easy to return items whether purchased in-store or online:

Target return timeframes and item conditions
- 60-Day Standard Window: Return items within 60 days from purchase/delivery date for change-of-mind.
- OnePass 365-Day Returns: OnePass members enjoy an extended 365-day return window. After 60 days, refunds may be issued as exchange vouchers rather than original payment.
- Product Condition: Returned items must be unused, unworn, and in original packaging. Clothing/swimwear requires tags and hygiene stickers intact.
- Proof of Purchase: Always provide proof of purchase (receipt, digital invoice, bank statement clearly showing transaction). Without proof, refunds are only possible for faulty items under consumer law.
- Original Packaging: Having original packaging speeds up returns but isn’t mandatory as long as the item remains sellable.
- No Restocking Fees: Target does not charge restocking fees. Collection fees might apply only for bulky change-of-mind returns.
Who pays for Target return shipping?
- In-Store Returns: Free. No charge when returning items directly at Target stores.
- Mail Returns (Online Orders): Target covers return postage costs for online orders returned via their official Australia Post label within the 60-day policy window.
- Large Items (Bulky Returns): Change-of-mind returns for large items may incur courier fees payable by customers. Faulty items are collected free at Target’s expense.
- Click & Collect Orders: Can be returned in-store at no cost, just like regular in-store purchases.
- International Returns: Not applicable, as Target Australia does not ship internationally.
Target refunds after a return - how and when you’ll get your money back
- Refund Method: Refunds issued to original payment method. Card payments return to that card, PayPal payments refunded to PayPal-linked accounts, and Afterpay/Zip refunds adjusted within those services.
- No Receipt Scenario: Without proof of purchase, faulty items may qualify for a Target Returns Card (store credit). No refunds/credits for change-of-mind without proof.
- Processing Time: In-store refunds are immediate, with card refunds showing in your account within approximately 5 business days. Mail returns are processed once received at Target’s warehouse, typically within days.
- Partial Refunds & Vouchers: OnePass returns after 60 days may receive refunds via exchange vouchers or store credit instead of original payment.
- Exceptions: Refunds for purchases made via gift/returns cards will be credited back to a new returns card. Delivery fees are non-refundable for change-of-mind returns.
- Communication & Tracking: Keep return receipts and tracking info. If refunds aren’t received timely, contact Target customer support with these details.
