5. 🗺️ Use Third-Party Outage Trackers – Downdetector, PowerOutage AU, and your distributor’s maps provide real-time info from users and operators.

To report or get help with an outage:

• 🔌 Power/Gas Outage? Call Your Distributor – Find the number on your bill or via Origin’s Help page. They handle repairs and outages 24/7.
  
  
• 📞 Contact Origin for Support – Call 13 24 61 or use live chat if you need help identifying the issue or confirming known outages.
  
  
• 🔥 Smell Gas or Safety Issue? Call 000 immediately. For gas outages, Origin can guide you or escalate to your distributor.
  
  
• 🌐 Origin Internet Down? Contact Origin Broadband Support via chat or phone. They’ll verify NBN status or raise a fault.
  
  
• ❤️ Life Support Customers – Inform Origin and your distributor ASAP for priority care. Have backup plans ready.
  
  
• 📝 Note the Reference Number – Always log the time, agent name, and reference ID when reporting, in case you need to follow up.
  

🌀 May 2025 (NSW) – 6,200+ homes affected by floods and storm damage. Origin customers experienced blackouts, though not due to Origin systems.

🌪️ Mar 2025 (QLD/NSW) – Cyclone Alfred blacked out 330,000 homes in QLD and 12,500 in NSW. Most power restored within 24–48 hours. Extreme weather caused physical grid damage.

🌬️ Feb 2024 (VIC) – Over 500,000 customers lost power due to collapsed transmission towers during extreme winds. Some rural areas were out for over a week.

🔥 Jan 2024 – Heatwave-related grid stress led to potential load shedding in SA and VIC. Minor rolling blackouts occurred in Adelaide.

🔧 Internet (2024–2025) – Origin broadband users faced brief outages due to NBN and Opticomm faults (e.g. Nov 2024 in Sydney). Resolved within hours.

Most outages affecting Origin customers come from network operators, not from Origin directly. Still, Origin plays a key role in communication and post-outage support.

🕐 Electricity Outages (handled by distributors):

• Minor issues: usually fixed within 2–4 hours.
  
  
• Severe damage (e.g., after storms): 24–72 hours or more depending on repairs needed.
  
  
• Remote areas may wait longer.
  
  

🔥 Gas Outages:

• Minor issues: resolved same day.
  
  
• Major breaks: may take 1–2 days.
  
  

🌐 Origin Broadband:

• NBN/Opticomm issues: usually resolved within 1–3 hours.
  
  
• If a technician is required: 1–2 business days.
  
  

📢 Planned Outages (maintenance):

• Advance notice is provided. Duration typically 2–4 hours.
