How to cancel a Wise subscription, service or order
A. Cancel a transfer (before completion):
- Log in to Wise (app or web) → Activity tab.
- Select the transfer → if “Cancel transfer” is visible, click it.
- Confirm cancellation → Wise will refund to your original payment method.
- If there is no button but it is still processing, contact support immediately for manual cancellation.
B. Close your Wise account:
- Withdraw all balances & cancel any pending transfers.
- Save statements or receipts you may need later.
- Go to Settings → Close Account (or in-app under Account settings).
- Follow prompts → receive email confirmation.
C. Cancel your Wise card:
- Freeze instantly in-app (Cards → Freeze).
- Contact support via chat/email to permanently cancel.
- Destroy physical card once cancelled.
D. Cancel scheduled payments/direct debits:
- Cancel in the app under Direct Debits or Pending Transfers.
- If merchant-initiated, revoke permission with merchant and Wise.
How long does a Wise cancellation take?
- Transfers: Must be cancelled before status = “completed.” Some transfers complete within minutes, others days. Act immediately.
- Unfunded transfers: Auto-cancel after ~2 weeks if unpaid.
- Refund timelines:
- Bank transfer refunds: 0–3 business days.
- Card refunds: up to 10 business days (usually 2–5).
- Wise balance refunds: instant.
- Bank transfer refunds: 0–3 business days.
- Account closure: Immediate once conditions are met.
- Card freeze: Instant. Permanent cancellation takes effect after support confirms.
- Direct debits: Cancel at least 1 business day before scheduled date to avoid processing.
Wise cancellation fees and final charges – what to expect
- Transfers: No Wise cancellation fees. Full refund unless SWIFT is used (intermediary banks may deduct fees).
- Accounts: No closure fees.
- Debit cards: No fee to cancel. Replacement fee applies if you want a new one (~AU$10).
- Refunds: Always free from Wise. Third-party bank/card fees may still apply.
- Frequent cancellations: May lose guaranteed exchange rate feature.
