Spotlight
price match eligibility criteria - what qualifies for a match?

Spotlight’s price match program (the Bargain Guarantee) is designed to ensure you always get the lowest price when buying identical products in-store. If you find the same item cheaper at an eligible Australian retailer, Spotlight will match the price and beat it by an extra 10%.

To qualify, your item must meet these requirements:

✔ Identical item
The item must be the same brand, model, size, colour, and variant. Both Spotlight and the competitor must have the product in stock and available for immediate purchase (no backorders, no rainchecks).

✔ Competitor must be a physical retailer
Spotlight matches prices from retailers that:

  • Have a physical store in Australia, and

  • Either have a store within 30 km of your Spotlight location or can deliver the item to your address.

Online-only sellers or overseas sites aren’t eligible.

✔ All costs included
Spotlight compares the total price, including GST, shipping fees, and delivery charges if applicable.

✔ Bundle offers must match exactly
If the competitor’s deal includes bonus items or bundled accessories, Spotlight will only match it if the bundle is identical.

Important note: Price matching is in-store only, must be done before you pay, and cannot be applied to online orders, lay-bys, or after-purchase adjustments.

How to request a price match at
Spotlight

Spotlight’s Bargain Guarantee is simple, and with a little preparation, you can secure an additional 10% off the competitor’s price.

1. Confirm the lower price
Find the identical item at a lower price from an eligible competitor. Make sure it’s in stock at both retailers.

2. Gather your proof
Bring evidence of the competitor’s pricing, such as:

  • Printed or digital catalogues

  • Screenshots of product pages

  • Online listings (showing price + date)

  • A signed quote on letterhead

  • A recent competitor receipt

Clear documentation speeds up verification.

3. Visit your nearest Spotlight store
Price matches must be done in person. Use Spotlight’s Store Finder to locate your closest store.

4. Request the price match before paying
At checkout or customer service, show your proof and say something like: “Hi, I’d like to claim the Bargain Guarantee on this item.”
Staff are trained to process these requests and will verify your evidence.

5. Verification
A team member may check the competitor’s website or make a quick call to confirm item availability and pricing. This usually only takes a couple of minutes.

6. Get your 10% price beat
If your request meets the criteria, Spotlight will beat the verified competitor price by an extra 10% - applied directly at the register.

7. If issues arise
If a staff member hesitates or is unsure, politely ask them to check the official Bargain Guarantee policy or request a store manager.

Spotlight
accepted competitors & required proof

Spotlight will match and beat prices from any brick-and-mortar retailer in Australia that sells the identical item and meets delivery/location criteria.

Eligible competitors include:

  • National retail chains

  • Local retail stores with physical shopfronts

  • Any retailer that can deliver the item to your area

Not eligible:

  • Online-only retailers

  • Overseas stores

  • Marketplace sellers (e.g., eBay auctions)

Accepted proof of a lower price:

  • Printed advertisements, catalogues, or flyers

  • Screenshots from competitors’ websites

  • Online product listings with visible price & date

  • Signed quotes from competitors

  • Recent receipts showing the lower price

Spotlight staff must be able to verify:

  1. The item is identical, and

  2. The competitor’s price is current, genuine, and inclusive of GST + any delivery costs.

Exclusions & limitations - when price matches are not allowed at
Spotlight

Spotlight’s Bargain Guarantee is generous, but several situations are excluded:

❌ Wholesale or trade-only suppliers
Excludes wholesalers, importer warehouses, trade suppliers, duty-free outlets, and auction sites.

❌ Clearance, liquidation, or closing-down sales
Extraordinary discounts or one-off liquidation prices are not eligible.

❌ Cashback, vouchers, or coupon-based prices
Prices reduced by vouchers, coupon codes, or cashback redemptions don’t qualify.

❌ Cannot combine offers
You can’t stack a price beat with Spotlight VIP discounts or other promos.

❌ No retroactive price matches
Requests must be made before purchase, and cannot be applied after the sale or on lay-by items.

❌ In-store only
Spotlight will not apply price beats on online checkouts.

❌ Identical item requirement
If the competitor’s product includes bonuses or accessories Spotlight does not offer, or if either store is out of stock, the match won't apply.

I bought curtains and rods at Spotlight expecting the promotion I was told about, but the voucher I received was $20 instead of the $40 I’d planned on. That $20 gap mattered to my budget, and it felt like the offer wasn’t being honoured at checkout. I just wanted Spotlight to fix the price difference so the promotion matched what was promised. - Julie

I went to Spotlight to use a $40 coupon on a king quilt cover I’d asked to have put aside, and I even picked extra items to hit the spend. When I arrived, the quilt cover had been sold and couldn’t be found, so the whole deal fell apart. It wasn’t just inconvenience — it was losing the value of the discount I’d planned around. - Marianne

I ordered blinds online from Spotlight because my local store didn’t have the sale stock, then got hit with delivery fees that were almost as much as the blinds. When I tracked it and saw it was shipping from a nearby store, it felt even harder to justify. If the real delivery price had been clearer upfront, I would’ve made a different call. - Anne

At Spotlight, a bath mat had no shelf price, so I asked at the till and was told $21. Then I was asked if I was a member — when I said no, the price jumped to $35. I’m fine with member discounts, but this felt like a penalty for not handing over personal details. Pricing should be clear and consistent. - N

Recent
Spotlight
price match experiences

Smooth and successful price beat: Customers report easy wins when they bring clear proof. Staff verify quickly, and the 10% beat is applied on the spot.

“Below cost” refusals: A few customers report Spotlight declining extremely low competitor prices, even though this isn’t stated in the official policy. Ultra-steep clearance deals may be refused.

Incorrect refusals (rare): Some customers experienced staff misunderstandings - especially on big-ticket craft tools like Cricut machines. In these cases, politely asking for a manager or referencing the official policy usually resolves the issue.

Price Match FAQs

What qualifies for a Spotlight price match under the Bargain Guarantee?

Spotlight’s Bargain Guarantee applies when you find an identical item cheaper at an eligible Australian retailer, and Spotlight will beat that price by 10%. The item must match exactly (brand, model, size, colour, variant), and both Spotlight and the competitor must have it in stock for immediate purchase. Spotlight compares the total cost including GST and any delivery fees, and they’ll only match bundle deals if the bundle is identical.

How do you claim Spotlight’s 10% price beat in-store?

To claim Spotlight’s 10% price beat, you need to request it in-store before you pay. Bring clear proof of the competitor’s current lower price, then ask staff at checkout or customer service to apply the Bargain Guarantee. They’ll verify the item is identical, confirm stock and pricing, and may check the competitor website or call the store. If approved, the extra 10% beat is applied immediately at the register.

Which competitors does Spotlight accept for price matching, and what’s the “30 km” rule?

Spotlight only matches prices from Australian retailers with physical stores, not online-only or overseas sellers. To qualify, the competitor must have a store within 30 km of your Spotlight store or be able to deliver the item to your address. This rule is designed to keep comparisons fair and realistic, so it helps to confirm the competitor’s store location or delivery option before you go in.

When will Spotlight refuse a price match or price beat?

Spotlight won’t price match if the lower price comes from clearance/liquidation or closing-down sales, wholesalers or trade-only suppliers, auction/marketplace sellers, or discounts based on vouchers, coupon codes, or cashback. The Bargain Guarantee also can’t be stacked with Spotlight VIP discounts or other promotions, and it’s not available for online orders, lay-bys, or after-purchase adjustments. If either store is out of stock, the match won’t apply.
