Follow these steps if you suspect an OVO Energy outage:

• Check if it’s just you: See if neighbours or street lights are also off. If not, it may be a property-level issue.
  
  
• Use your distributor’s outage map:

• Check OVO Notifications: Planned outages may be notified by SMS/email.
  
  
• Use the MyOVO App: Smart meter usage graphs can show if your home’s power has flatlined.
  
  
• Check community/social media: Local Facebook groups and Twitter often confirm suburb-level outages.
  

If you’ve lost power as an OVO Energy customer:

• Call your distributor: Outages are handled by the network operator, not OVO. Use the 24/7 emergency line listed on your bill (e.g., Ausgrid: 13 13 88, Endeavour: 13 10 03, Evoenergy: 13 10 93).
  
  
• For emergencies (fallen power lines, fire, sparks): Call 000 immediately.
  
  
• Contact OVO Energy: Call 1300 937 686 (Mon–Fri, 9am–5pm), use live chat via the OVO website, or email hello@ovoenergy.com.au. They’ll confirm your distributor and provide support.
  
  
• Web reporting: Some distributors (e.g., AusNet, Endeavour) allow logging outages online.
  
  
• Life Support Customers: Call your distributor immediately and notify OVO as well. Life support customers are prioritised during restorations.
  

While OVO hasn’t had retail-specific outages, customers may be impacted by grid-level events. Notable examples in the past year include:

• Feb 13, 2024 – VIC Statewide Blackout: Storms collapsed transmission towers, cutting power to 500,000+ homes. (Cause: Extreme weather damage.)
  
  
• Oct 17, 2024 – Broken Hill Blackout: Windstorms destroyed seven towers, leaving ~18,000 without power. Diesel generators restored essential services within days.
  
  
• Nov 2024 – SE QLD Storm Outages: Lightning and fallen trees cut power to 50,000 homes; most restored within 24 hours.
  
  
• July 2025 – NSW Planned Outage: Essential Energy maintenance led to a 6-hour outage (notified in advance).
  
  

Common causes: severe storms, wind damage, equipment faults, planned maintenance, and (occasionally) wildlife or accidents.

• Minor local outages: 1–3 hours, sometimes under an hour in metro areas.
  
  
• Major weather events: Same-day restoration for many, but full fixes may take 24–48 hours. In extreme cases (like Broken Hill, 2024), repairs to transmission infrastructure can take weeks, though temporary power is usually restored sooner.
  
  
• Planned outages: Usually last a few hours. OVO notifies customers in advance.
  
  
• OVO IT system outages (billing/app): Rare, but resolved within 1–2 hours.
  
  

Restoration order: Safety first, then hospitals/critical sites, then restoring power to the largest number of customers before smaller pockets.
