AGL Outage FAQs
How do I check if there's an AGL power, gas, or internet outage in my area?
To check an AGL outage, first confirm the service type, then check the relevant distributor or AGL status page. For electricity or gas, your local energy distributor’s outage map is key-find them via your AGL bill or the AER network lookup tool. For internet or mobile, use AGL’s network status dashboard. You can also consult NBN Co or Telstra (AGL’s mobile partner). In major events, check DownDetector or news reports.
How do I report an AGL outage or service disruption?
Report electricity or gas issues to your local distributor, not AGL directly. Emergency contacts are on your AGL bill or outage page. For internet or mobile issues, call AGL Telecom on 131 245 or use their app or live chat. Clearly describe the problem and request a ticket number for follow-up. In urgent cases like gas leaks, always call 000 first.
How long does it usually take AGL to fix outages?
Most minor electricity or internet faults are fixed within hours, while major events can take days. Electricity issues are typically resolved in 2-4 hours, but storm-related or large-scale faults may take 12-72 hours or longer. Gas issues are usually repaired quickly unless pipelines are impacted. Internet and mobile disruptions vary based on whether it's an AGL, NBN, or Telstra issue.
What are the most common causes of AGL outages?
AGL outages are mostly caused by storms, grid failures, telecom faults, or planned maintenance. Severe weather is the top trigger, especially lightning, wind, or floods. Equipment failures, transformer fires, and misconfigured updates can also cause blackouts or internet loss. Planned upgrades may also result in temporary outages-these are usually announced in advance via AGL notifications.
