YouTube Premium (including YouTube Music Premium) is a no-contract subscription, meaning Australian users can cancel at any time without penalties or lock-in periods.

Key conditions to understand before cancelling:

• Cancel anytime: You’re free to cancel whenever you choose.
• Access until period end: After cancelling, your Premium benefits continue until the end of your current billing cycle.
• Free trials: If you’re on a free trial, you must cancel before the trial ends to avoid being charged. Cancelling at least 24 hours before expiry is strongly recommended.
• Apple-billed subscriptions: If you subscribed via Apple App Store, cancellation must be done through your Apple ID settings. YouTube cannot cancel it for you.
• Prepaid or annual plans: Cancelling an annual plan stops auto-renewal, but unused months are not refunded.
• Separate purchases: Cancelling YouTube Premium does not affect individual movie purchases, channel memberships, or rentals.

In short, every YouTube Premium user in Australia can cancel freely, just be mindful of billing dates, trial expiry, and the platform you subscribed through.

The cancellation steps depend on your device and billing method.

Cancel on the YouTube mobile app (Android)

1. Open the YouTube app and tap your profile picture.
2. Select Paid memberships.
3. Tap YouTube Premium.
4. Tap Continue to cancel.
5. Choose a reason if prompted and tap Next.
6. Tap Yes, cancel to confirm.

Cancel on a computer (YouTube website)

1. Sign in to your Google account at https://www.youtube.com.
2. Click your profile icon and select Purchases and memberships, or visit:
   https://www.youtube.com/paid_memberships
3. Find YouTube Premium and click Manage membership.
4. Select Cancel membership or Deactivate.
5. Follow the prompts and confirm cancellation.

Cancel on iPhone or iPad (Apple-billed subscriptions)

1. Open Settings → tap your Apple ID.
2. Tap Subscriptions.
3. Select YouTube Premium.
4. Tap Cancel Subscription and confirm.

You should receive an email confirming your cancellation, showing the date your Premium access will end.

• Effective date: Cancellation turns off auto-renewal immediately but access continues until the billing period ends.
• Avoiding the next charge: Cancel before your renewal date. Cancelling 24–48 hours early is safest.
• Mid-cycle cancellations: No refunds by default. Benefits continue until the cycle ends.
• Free trial deadline: Cancel before trial expiry to avoid instant billing.
