Can you cancel your Notion subscription? Check eligibility and conditions
Notion allows you to cancel your paid subscription at any time, with no lock-in contracts or early termination penalties. All Notion plans renew automatically until you cancel, so stopping future charges requires action from you.
Once cancelled, your subscription remains active until the end of your current billing period (monthly or annual). After that date, your account automatically downgrades to Notion’s Free Plan. You’ll keep access to all paid features until the billing cycle ends, and none of your pages or data are deleted when you downgrade.
There are no restrictions on when you can cancel. Even if you’re partway through an annual plan, you can cancel immediately - the downgrade simply takes effect at the end of the prepaid term. Notion does not charge penalties for cancelling early, but unused time is not refunded automatically.
If you subscribed through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, cancellation must be completed through that platform’s subscription settings. Notion cannot cancel mobile app subscriptions on your behalf.
For team or business workspaces, only an admin or workspace owner can cancel or downgrade the plan. Additional steps, such as removing paid members, may be required before cancellation.
Notion’s policies are the same globally, including for Australian consumers. While Notion follows its standard cancellation terms, Australian consumer law may apply in cases where services are faulty or not delivered as promised.
How to cancel a Notion subscription, service or order
You can cancel your Notion subscription directly from your workspace settings:
- Open Notion on a desktop browser or desktop app and log in to your workspace.
- Click Settings & Members from the left-hand menu.
- Select Billing to view your current plan details.
- Click Change plan.
- Choose the Free Plan to cancel your paid subscription.
- Confirm the downgrade when prompted.
Once confirmed, your subscription will be marked as “scheduled to downgrade,” and Notion will not charge you again after the current billing period ends. You’ll usually receive an email confirming the cancellation.
If you subscribed via mobile:
- Apple (iOS): Go to Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions → Notion → Cancel Subscription.
- Google Play: Open Google Play → Payments & Subscriptions → Subscriptions → Notion → Cancel Subscription.
Cancelling does not delete your Notion workspace or content. You’ll continue using Notion on the Free Plan and can upgrade again at any time.
How long does a Notion cancellation take?
Notion subscriptions renew automatically on a monthly or annual cycle. To avoid being charged again, you must cancel before your next billing date.
- Monthly plans: Cancel at least one day before your renewal date to avoid the next charge.
- Annual plans: Notion usually sends a renewal reminder email before billing. It’s best to cancel several days before the renewal date.
When you cancel, the downgrade takes effect at the end of your current billing period. You keep all paid features until that date, then your workspace automatically switches to the Free Plan.
If you miss the renewal and are charged, you can still cancel to stop future billing. In some cases, Notion offers full refunds if you act quickly after the charge (see refund section).

If you cancel partway through a billing cycle:
- You are not charged extra.
- You continue using paid features until the billing period ends.
- Unused time is not automatically refunded.
For team plans, adding new members may trigger immediate prorated charges. Removing members does not automatically generate refunds for unused seats, so it’s important to review member access before your next billing date.
Notion pricing is typically charged in USD. Any additional charges seen by Australian users are usually currency conversion or bank fees, not cancellation penalties.
