Yes, you can cancel Afterpay services at any time, depending on what you want to cancel:

• Afterpay Account: You can close your account anytime if your balance is $0. It’s permanent, so only do it if you’re sure you won’t need it again.
  
  
• Recurring Payments & Subscriptions: Cancel any time in the app or website. Afterpay stops future charges once you cancel with the merchant.
  
  
• Orders Made With Afterpay: You must cancel or return orders directly with the retailer. Afterpay updates your payment schedule once the retailer processes the return or cancellation.
  
  
• Important Note: You still need to pay scheduled instalments until the retailer confirms the cancellation/refund. You can use Afterpay’s “pause payment” tool to delay payments if needed.
  
  

Follow these steps based on your cancellation type:

• Close Your Account:
  
  
  • Log into Afterpay (app or web) → Go to Account → Scroll down → Tap Close My Account
  • Confirm your reason and submit. You must have a $0 balance to proceed.
    
    
• Cancel a Subscription/Recurring Payment:
  
  
  • In the app: My Afterpay → Orders → Recurring Payments
  • Tap merchant → Tap Cancel Recurring Payment
• Cancel an Order:
  
  
  • Contact the retailer directly to cancel or return your purchase.
    
    
  • After they confirm cancellation, Afterpay adjusts or cancels your payment plan.
    
    
  • You’ll receive email confirmation from Afterpay. If no response from the retailer in 7 days, open a dispute in the app.
    
    

💡 Use the Afterpay app’s “push back payment” feature to avoid being charged while waiting on a cancellation or return.

• Orders: Cancel ASAP, before shipping or before your first payment.
  
  
• Refund Timelines: Once the merchant confirms a return, Afterpay cancels your future payments and refunds the rest. Processing can take up to 10 business days to hit your card.
  
  
• Payment Plans: If you’ve paid 1–2 of 4 instalments, refunds “cascade” backwards (i.e. future payments are cancelled first).
  
  
• Recurring Payments: Cancel before your next billing date to avoid another charge.
  
  
• Account Closure: Can be done immediately once balance is zero.
  

• ✅ No cancellation fees for ending your account, subscriptions, or payment plans.
  
  
• ⚠️ Late fees apply if you miss payments:
  
  
  • $10 after 1st missed payment (orders $40+), +$7 after 7 days
    
    
  • Max late fee = 25% of order or $68 (whichever is lower)
    
    
• 🔒 Account is paused until you’re caught up if you miss a payment.
  
  
• 💡 You can reschedule up to 3 payments per year to avoid late fees.
